Tuesday 30 August 2016

It's always busy in the 3/4 team!!!

What a wonderfully productive term we have been enjoying!
We have recently been celebrating Book Week, Literacy and Numeracy Week and our students beginning their week long learning as Local Leaders at Serendip.  Please ask your children about these events as they always have so much to talk about!!  We've also enjoyed sport at Lara Secondary College, our visiting Bluearth coach Mitch teaching us about volleyball and watching the Lara's Got Talent grand final!!!  Throw in the Olympics and class speeches and it's been a fabulous term!

Coming up soon we have our Queenscliff Camp (remember final payment and notes re due tomorrow), Student Learning Conferences (please book online) and some students are off to Regional Athletics.  Phew! Plenty to talk about around the dinner table.

Welcome Back to Term 3!!!

We hope everyone enjoyed their holidays and are avoiding the winter ills!!
The 3/4 students have all begun another wonderfully busy term.  Among many things, we are currently focusing on arrays and multiplication, the Olympics and procedural writing.
All students are in the process of clarifying their personal goals and are hopefully also re-establishing their daily reading and homework habits.
Please return all Student Learning Portfolios back to school so that they can continue to grow!!
Here are some of our recent activities:

Welcome Mitch our visiting Bluearth Coach

On Wednesday we welcomed renowned Bluearth coach Mick to our school.  Mick took each of our classes for a 1 hour Bluearth Masterclass.  All of the children participated fully, with pleasing enthusiasm and respect.  The teachers also enjoyed this fabulous opportunity to up-skill ourselves and learn some new activities.  We look forward to Mitch returning again throughout the year.

Thank you George, Gloria, Ivan and Barb

Last Friday we said goodbye to our cleaners who have been an outstanding part of our school community for many years.  Over their last couple of weeks the children were eager to spot George, Gloria, Ivan or Barb in the yard before or after school to say goodbye.  Some students even wrote persuasive pieces of writing about why we believe that they are the BEST cleaners ever!!!  These pieces were put into Thank You cards and presented to George and Gloria.
We wish them all the best!!

Active maths!

Frequently our students get active with concrete materials during our maths lessons.  Here are some happy mathematicians busy exploring.  You will see some of our students looking for symmetrical letters or symmetrical objects.  Some students are exploring area and perimeter with counters and paper animals.  We have looked at 2 and 3d shapes as well as regularly using MAB and counters to explore place value and counting accurately.
